Obituary

Kinder-Funeral service for Bennie Earl Pelican, 50, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2013 in the Chapel of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder. Father Carlos Garcia will officiate and burial will follow in Green Oak Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 beginning at 11 a.m. A Vigil Service will be led by Deacon Roy Nash at 6 p.m. followed by the recitation of the Rosary. Visitation will continue until the following morning at service time.
Bennie was a lifelong resident of Kinder. He was a 1981 Kinder High School graduate. He was a member of the band, played the trombone and was also a drum major. He attended Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in Houston, TX, worked with Chef Paul Prudhomme in New Orleans, owned Slim's Yesteryears, and currently was employed with Ardoin Funeral Home. Bennie also served two terms as a Kinder City Councilman. He loved his family, friends, and co-workers as well as his pet, Mitzie. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was very compassionate and full of life. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving mother, Laddie Pelican of Kinder; two brothers, James "J.S." Pelican and wife, Marilyn and Chief Gary Pelican and wife, Karen, all of Kinder; two sisters, Estalena Manuel and husband, David and Beverly LeJeune and husband, William "Bic", all of Kinder; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Bennie is preceded in death by his father, Eswood Pelican; one brother, Larry Guy Pelican; and one nephew, Jason Guy Ware.
