Oakdale-Celebration of Life services honoring Alton Lee "A.L." James, 78, will be held at 12 o'clock noon on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Pitkin. Rev. Bro. Arlen Smith will officiate. Alton's family will receive friends and visitors at Gravel Hill Baptist in Pitkin on Monday evening, May 19, 2025, from 5 o'clock p.m. until time of service on Tuesday. There will be no graveside services, as Alton's wishes were to be cremated.  All of Alton's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

Alton Lee "A.L." James, born July 2, 1946, passed away peacefully at his home in Pitkin Louisiana, at the age of 78 years. He was a 1964 graduate of Pitkin High School and then joined the United States Army. After the Army, he began his career as a truck driver where he became known as "The Whiskey Chitto Kid". He had a passion for quail hunting with his English Pointers he raised and trained. Alton loved to follow Pitkin Tiger ball, the LSU Tigers, and watch old westerns. As friends and family gather to celebrate his life, they will remember him for his love of dancing to swamp pop and classic country music. His story telling whether it be tall tales or half-truths, were sure to make you laugh. Most of all, the immense pride he had in his great grandsons Coby and Cooper. Alton will be missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish Alton's memory include his son, Alton Jeffery James; his daughter, Gennifer James Thompson; three grandchildren, Megan Ford, Tiffany Deason and husband Laython, and Sarah James; two great grandsons, Coby Blaine and Cooper Chase Deason; one sister, Wanda Thompson and husband Rickey; one brother by choice, W.B. "Woody" Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Alton is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Audie James; two sons, Paul Lee and Randall Jeromy James; his brother, Donald Ray James; and son-in-law Gregory Thompson.

Alton's family would like to extend a very special thank you to all who so effortlessly gave their thoughtless words, deeds, and prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home to assist with services.

Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared with Alton's family at www.ardoinfuneralhome.com or on Facebook-Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
