Helen was a loving wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She was a faithful, lifelong member of Indian Village United Pentecostal Church.  She was a devoted wife to her husband, Carlton, for twelve years. In her early years, Helen owned a fabric store where she often sewed for others. She later worked at Cappel's Drug Store as a pharmacy tech and a cashier.  After raising her family, Helen decided to go to college at McNeese State University where she would earn four college degrees over nine years with her highest degree being an Education Specialist degree.  During her time in college, she taught at Reeves High School. After Reeves, she moved to Calcasieu Parish where she worked as a curriculum coordinator at Combre-Fondel Elementary.  Next, she moved on to DeQuincy Elementary where she would receive her well-deserved retirement.

Helen enjoyed being outside, doing yard work and taking walks with her dog, Charlie. She was a very loving person who dearly adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very generous and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  Helen was a very fun, happy person who loved life. She enjoyed visiting her friends and drinking coffee with them. Helen will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Helen's memory include her husband, Carlton Savant of Kinder; three daughters, Paige Whitaker and husband, Ricky of Moss Bluff, Cindy Hooper and husband, Paul of Moss Bluff, and Shauna Burkhead of Kinder; three step-daughters, Liz Miller and husband, Tresmer of Iowa, Pam Augustine and husband, Blaine of Woodlawn and Janet Portie of Lake Charles; step-son, Gary Savant and wife, Tabitha of Kinder; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
